Kunsthalle Rostock

Germany

The Kunsthalle (Hall of Arts) was opened in 1969 as a Museum of Contemporary Art. It hosts an art-collection of about 520 paintings, 6000 graphic works and 200 sculptures, mainly East-German. The collection is understood to be a part of an art tradition reaching back to the 1920´s. It includes valuable drawings related to Dresden´s late expressionism-period and to the New Objectivity. A second focus of the collection is art from various regions of Mecklenburg and Vorpommern. During 1980 and 1990 they hosted the Ostsee-Biennale which exhibited artworks from artists in the Baltic Sea region.

University students, tourist organisations, cultural bodies and inhabitants will be engaged in programs accompanying the exhibition. They will organise programs on the digital art platform and contribute with expertise and storytellers to Telling the Baltic. KR will arrange contacts with related local/regional players to organise one workshop with artists from the region who have taken part in digital 3D-workshops.
