Legender från Karlshamn kallar Małgorzata Jablońska och Piotr Szewczyk sina konstprojekt i Karlshamn. Längst ut vid havet, på Östra Piren och i högskolans fönster och lokaler kan man finna dessa berättelser i olika material och tekniker.

När man hör ordet legender associerar man först till sägner om alver, demoner, troll och enhörningar, till fantasins utmarker. Małgorzata Jablońska och Piotr Szewczyk letar snarare vardagliga historier om och från människor, platser eller saker i Karlshamn. Sedan skapar de nya sagor för dagens Karlshamn.

Under våren har de besökt Karlshamn och vandrat runt, haft planerade och oplanerade möten med människor, funnit historier i tidningar, på antikvariat, museum och på Blekinge tekniska högskola där de arbetade med studenter på programmet crossmedia och upplevelseproduktion. Under våren har de sedan arbetat vidare med att gestalta några historier som konstverk och ger dem som en slags gåvor tillbaka till Karlshamn. Konstverken visas  i anslutning till de platser som har anknytning till historierna. Fiktion blandat med verklighet och lek med allvar.
Är det viktigt att veta vad som är vad?

Idag kan man förflytta sig i realistiska och  tredimensionella rum i datorn, rum
som försvinner när vi går ut ur dem. Vi närmar oss verklighetsillusionen i datorgrafiken
och agererar i videosamtal och möten via datorn på ett naturligt sätt, som om vi satt bredvid
varandra i verkligheten. Małgorzata Jablońska använder sig istället av något som liknar den kantiga grafiken från datorns 80-tal. Hon plattar till perspektivet och gör det subjektivt för att förstärka sin egen ordning, utanför den nya grammatikens regler. De grundläggande rutorna och cirklarna skapar en egen geometri som i collage med fotografier och texter bildar berättelser utan varken början eller slut.

Hennes examensarbete från konsthögskolan utgick från cirkeln som form och cirkeln i vetenskapen. Cirkeln undgår både tid och rum symboliskt och blev ett återkommande element i hennes bildserier från händelser i lägenhetsområden i en mindre stad. Jablonska arbetar med animationer, spel, multiplar, ljud, film, skulptur och relationella verk. Tillsammans med Piotr Szewczyk öppnande hon en utställning på en CD med kod, utifrån en verklig lokal som utställningens curator Sebastian Cichocki valt. Space is the place, hette utställningen och om man inte besökt galleriet innan slutdatum, kom man aldrig in. Inuti verket rörde man sig i en slags hypertext, fastän med bilder.

Sätter utvandrarna sin prägel på Karlshamn som stad ännu idag? Från 1800-talets mitt var Karlshamn samlingsort och delmål på utvandrarnas väg till Amerika. Över en miljon svenskar emigrerade till ett land som behövde deras arbetskraft. Piotr Szewczyk ville vända på idén om Karlshamn och funderade över vilka som invandrar eller mera tillfälligt flyttar hit idag. Idag är Sverige ett helt annat land än det fattiga 1800-talslandet och nästan en miljon svenskar är födda i annat land. I ett skulpturalt självporträtt tillsammans med Małgorzata Jablońska hastar de båda mot Karlshamn och får symbolisera den tillfällige inflyttaren. De bildar ett samtalspar med skulpturen i hamnparken, Vilhelm Mobergs romanfigurer Karl-Oskar och Kristina, där
Karl-Oskar står ser stelt ut över havet, medan Kristina vänder sig om. Szewczyks par påminner om vägskyltarnas estetik, där skyltarna står för något vi kommit överens om och som vi snabbt ska uppfatta. Är det en upplysning, ett påbud eller en hänvisning till hur vi ska ta oss vidare?
Skulpturen får vi tolka utifrån vår egen tid och kultur. I ”Nybyggarna” av Moberg kan vi lyssna på ett samtal som egentligen handlar om Kalifornien, men får handla om Karlshamn idag:

- Du, Robert. Det där med guldet, var ligger det nånstans? (…). – Jag menar, vet du precis stället? – Nej, inte precis. Vi får leta, fråga oss fram. – Ligger det utspritt eller på samma ställe? – Nej, det ligger utspritt.

The exhibition The Return Of The Losers in which Gustav Hellbergs In Your Head is a part, is on show at Kalmar konstmuseum until September fourth. On the third of June Swedish culture news released its top ten list on the most relevant cultural happenings for the month of June. The Return Of The Losers got ranked in second place. The reviewer found the exhibition to be a relevant and thought-provoking report on what in the future awaits the Lost Generation; i.e those born during the 1990s and 2000s.  Read up on The Return of the Losers.

It is stated that Artus Court is “…a complex of buildings forming a branch of the Gdańsk History Museum, located within the Main City boundaries and forming a part of the representative city route called the Royal Route.”

In this, which I might add- beautiful complex of building a number of people with a number of interesting things to say about art and about culture will meet during the 23-25th of May; during a seminar that goes under the heading of Towards the Third Culture. It is open to the public and admittance is free.
I, Aje Björkman (the information officer of project Art Line) will be there, ears and eyes firmly open and attentive. It is going to be very interesting to hear what the attending lecturers will have to say about the concept of the Third Culture.

At this seminar the project leader of Art Line, Torun Ekstrand will hold a lecture about the project; what Art Line is and what it aims for. But before that, Art Line will appear at Kalmar konstmuseum, where artist Gustav Hellberg´s installation “Is It Safe” will – tomorrow at the 7th of May – get inaugurated.
